La Isla Bonita is often the pet name given to La Palma. One of the smallest Canary Islands and the most volcanically active, the last eruption was the Teneguia volcano in 1971. La Palma is a place of wondrous natural beauty and is unspoilt by masses of tourists - the perfect place to go for a cheap, peaceful holiday!
Things to Do in La Palma
The biggest attraction of La Palma and one that it would be criminal not to visit is the National Park of Taburiente. A cheap way to spend your holiday, wandering around the endless forests or mountain summit paths! You’ll get to see some of the best scenery in the world! Gaze in awe at the imposing volcanoes, listen to the song birds in the rain forests and fall completely in love with the black volcanic landscapes marked with lava roads and lonely pines that run close to heather covered hills. Any way you look at it, you’ll never forget visiting La Palma!
La Palma is an island of white washed cottages and greenery everywhere. For places to visit, try the Roquede De Los Muchachos which rises over 2000m and is the site of the astronomical observatory. From that point you can get a great view of the whole island and even some of the neighboring ones! Zarza Archaeological Park is worth a visit to see the cave carvings drawn by the ancient natives of La Palma. Cueva Bonita, interesting architecture - there’s lots to keep you occupied in La Palma. The island activities generally revolve around the amazing scenery which is great for tourists - sight seeing is a cheap way of having fun!
Beaches of La Palma
La Palma has some fantastic black sand beaches. The water off the shore of La Palma is some of the clearest around the Canaries and snorkeling can last for hours as you lose yourself in the clear underwater world and follow the friendly colourful fish. The beaches are generally small and very often deserted so you can enjoy a cheap relaxing day at the beach without the annoyance of crowds of people!
Hotels and Bars of La Palma
La Palma hasn’t got as many bars, restaurants or hotels as the more popular Canary Islands. However, the few that are about all have fantastic food, friendly atmospheres and charm by the bucketful! La Palma generally doesn’t have the high-rise hotels that the other islands have so this is definitely a plus! Hotels here are more elegant and friendly and there are a lot of cheap deals available and some cheap budget hotels. Many people who come to La Palma prefer to stay in private cottages which may work out cheaper but the advantage of a hotel is not having to lift a finger on your peaceful holiday!
Once you come to La Palma, you’ll never want to go anywhere else!

Tucked way in the attic, sorting through boxes of Christmas decorations, I glance upon a true treasure: “The Christmas Book”. Now worn and tattered by the loving hands that have held this most loved tradition, my memory is flooded with kindness and joy as I recall all of the years our family has gathered together to hear one of these favored classic stories.
Since I was a young girl, I can recall this tradition. My mother calling my sister and I into the family room, treats and quilts, fireplace lit, peace and quiet covering us with the warmth of the Christmas Spirit. Deep inside we tingled with excitement, wondering which one of these classic Christmas stories would carry away our dreams that night.
This tradition is perhaps the most loved by everyone in our family. Season after Season, we would bring out the “most loved book”. Season after Season the stories became more rich with meaning.
These classic tales are rich with moral values, connecting oneself to a deeper understanding of the human condition. Each story has a magical twist that inspires and fortifies the soul. As I have grown, so has my appreciation for the meanings found in these story. I am ever thankful that my mother had the insight to read these stories over and over, allowing my understanding of these stories to grow as I grew.
I am grateful to my mother for understanding that children never outgrow the love of hearing a story read aloud. As she infused the passages with passion and meaning, my sister and I strengthen our resolve to train our own voices to speak with conviction and clarity.
As another Holiday approaches, I joyfully unpack the “Most Loved Christmas Book”. The tradition continues as I anxiously thumb through the pages, considering which of the stories will be read first this Season. As I breath deeply and fully, I am overwhelmed by the awareness that the true Spirit of Christmas as been re-awaken within me. It’s going to be a wonderful Christmas this year. After all, it’s “tradition”.

Don’t you just despise shopping for a Halloween Costume every year? When you get to those stores they are jam packed full of people, prices are outrageous and all the shelves have been picked over before you even get there. My suggestion this year is to take some friendly advice and avoid the headache; be smart and shop early. An even better way to save you money on aspirin is to buy your Halloween Costume online this year. In this day and age shopping online is where it’s at and Halloween costumes are no exception for those small-towners.
Online costume stores offer quality costumes for every age group and size. Adult costumes featuring like various historical and cultural characters, clown costumes, French maid costumes, pirate costumes, funny costumes, witch costumes, devil costumes, vampire costumes, nurse costumes, cowboy costumes, the list is endless. What’s great about these stores is they can also be used for other holidays, not just for Halloween. Buy from the store when needing items for school plays, sporting events, birthdays, graduations, anniversaries and for every holiday on the Calendar.
Costume stores strive to provide for those customers who are looking for a costume in all adult men & women sizes, even the hard to find plus size costumes. Among the largely shaped outfits one can find fairies, geisha, goddesses, Red Riding Hoods, gladiators, pirates and werewolves. The younger theatre and Halloween fans are also likely to find interesting outfits here. The online stores offer almost all adult costumes adapted for teens and children with dozens of outfits especially designed for toddlers and babies. See the angel and fairy costumes for the most adorable getups you’ve ever seen for the little ones. Before buying a costume it is strongly recommended that you look at the sizing chart for the manufacture of the particular item as each of the manufactures make costumes differently. An experienced store staff will be able to give you information and answer questions on costume sizing.
Popular items from the TV, Movies & Comics sections, feature interesting outfits like Batman, Elvis, Harry Potter, characters from Star Wars, Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean, and comic book characters from DC or Marvel Comics such as Superman, Wonder Woman and Spiderman. If you are looking to be a little more risqu this season, have a look at the adult’s sexy costume section. There will be the perfect little number for those scandalous playboy bunnies at heart. These also make great Valentine’s or anniversary gifts for that special someone in your life. A novelty that is becoming huge for online costume stores is that special item for your pet. Eccentric costumers can now purchase an outfit for their dog or cat, and they get to choose from about a dozen different ones. Imagine trick or treating this year with Rover the super dog or Fluffy the pirate cat. Now there’s something you don’t see every day.
You can never have enough accessories! Top up your costume with all the fixings complete your Halloween Costume look with a wig, mask, weapon, cape, wings or a set of devil horns. You’ll need makeup if you plan to be a Vampire or some other dark supernatural force. Click through hundreds of face colors, fang sets, blood and prosthetics to make your night work remembering.
Most of the large online costume shops will surely have items for clowns and magicians also, where they can find dozens of prop articles from lights, smoke machines, puppets, magic hats and swindle card decks. Just what is needed to do their specialty when entertaining.
Be sure to click on over to the party decorations and supplies area before you check out. No Halloween party is complete without blood dripping platters, cups and themed sets. Internet surfers can now grab the perfect Halloween costume with all the accessories needed and never see a long line or picked over rack. So what are you waiting for my children of the night, type in the URL and purchase exactly what you want… and buy it in your size! Edited by Glinda Zuladra

It’s estimated that there are more than a million bags that are lost by the airlines each year in the U.S. alone. How many get lost in the whole world is anyone’s guess. Here are a few tips that may help you recover your bags if they should they get lost.
You should attach two or three tags with your name, home address, and phone number to the handle and zipper-pulls of each bag that you are checking. There is less of a chance that all of your tags will get torn off in transit. Make sure that you have removed any old airline tracking tags that are still attached to your luggage as they could confuse the baggage handlers.
Also, be sure to place the same contact information, including a copy of your itinerary and destination address inside all of your bags. That way, if they do go astray and are found in time, it is possible that they could be forwarded to your hotel.
Pick luggage with preferably a bright or odd color that will stand out among all black and brown bags. Know which brand name of the luggage that you are using and attach a small colorful scarf or ribbon to the handle to make identification easier. Stick decals or a contrasting colored tape to each side of the bags so they are easier to find as it goes around the carousel. Remember these details, or better still, take a digital photo of your luggage just before you go and bring it with you. This will help the lost luggage staff at the airport locate your bags if they get lost in transit and turn up at their office. It will also help if you do have to make a claim.
It helps to make a list of what you have in your luggage and carry that list in you carry-on bag. The chance of your luggage getting lost in transit increases dramatically when you have connecting, or delayed flights. Always pack all of your valuables, including your laptop or Blackberry, travel documents, prescriptions, etc., in your carry-on bag. It makes sense to pack only the things you can afford to lose in your checked baggage. Most analysts believe that the airline industry’s problem of lost luggage is not going to be resolved anytime soon.
What can you do your luggage gets lost?
Go immediately to the baggage claim office and file your claim. Many airlines have a twenty-four hour window of time starting from when your flight arrives to file a claim and be eligible for compensation. Get a claim receipt and check the tracking of your luggage with the airline by phone, or on the airline’s website. Make sure you keep all your flight documents until the lost luggage problem has been resolved.
How can you guarantee that the airlines won’t lose your luggage?
There are a number of companies that will send your luggage in the U.S., such as UPS, FedEx, or DHL, directly to your hotel or destination address for a reasonable cost. If you are staying in a hotel, your luggage will be brought to your room. When you consider that in the U.S. alone, well over a million bags are lost by the airlines every year, this service may be well worth considering. If you are traveling by air through Europe, FirstLuggage.com, has a similar service.

Most likely the most significant and stunning building in Havana City is the Capitol building. A visit to this amazing estate of the art palace is something you should not miss while visiting Havana.
In the area that today is occupied by The Capitol building, there was a swamp before, cleaned and transformed into what was known as the first and only Botanical Garden in Cuba in the Nineteenth Century.
The development project of the Capitol did not begin until 1926 due to a great deal of political instability and complexity of the project it self. Once it started it only took 3 years to be finished into the same shape that visitors can admire today.
The grand structure was unveiled on Thursday May 20 just after mid day with the attendance of the president of the Republic of Cuba and the rest of the government cabinet ruling the island at that time.
The group that took part in the planning of the construction of the Capitol was also joined together by engineers and Cuban architects under the capable hands of Eugenio Raynieri Piedra of a renowned architected famous for his artistic designs. The total cost of the project reached the 17 million dollars.
To any pedestrian, the dome of the Capitol of Havana can easily draw his/her attention, fifth in the world of Renaissance style that, for its proportions and silhouettes, it remembers to San Pedro’s Basilica, in Rome. The dome is the second higher point of the city, preceded by the Monument to Mart in the Revolution Square.
A further detail that captivates everyone is the central piazza, which is escorted by 17 ionic columns of granite and in its facade; the three huge mahogany doors that give access to the main floor all three decorated with engraving recalling events of the history of Cuba.
The Capitol of Havana has more than 7 decades of having been founded already. The monumental building that does not have any similar in other parts of the world and that it is considered as the third in importance for their monolithic construction, constitutes the only of its type built in this century.
In the main hall there is a huge diamond which represents the starting point of the National High Way that goes all along the island. This project was also finished together with the construction of the Capitol.
It also houses the 3rd biggest statue inside a building in the world and it represents The Republic of Cuba. Angelo Zanelli an Italian artist sculpted it inspired on a famous Cuban model. It was unveiled in 1929, in the Hall of the Lost Steps (Saln de los Pasos Perdidos).
Visiting the Capitol of Havana is just an amazing trip to the past. It was built to resemble the one in the United States, but in its rooms you will find a lot of history hidden behind its columns. Your vacation will be complete when you experience this visit. Do not miss the chance.

Glow sticks add the perfect touch to your camping trip. These safe, fun, long-lasting lights are ideal for adding to your camping-accessories kit! Plus they’re convenient for late-night bathroom runs.
Planning a camping trip this summer? Don’t forget the glow sticks. Aside from being just plain fun to use, glow sticks have several distinct advantages over lanterns and flashlights.
They’re portable, dependable and long lasting. You don’t have to fiddle with knobs or switches to get them to turn on. They come equipped with a handy string attached for easy carrying. Once they’re activated, they give off a bright, powerful glow that lasts for hours!
They never need batteries or replacement bulbs - and you know what a pain finding the right-size bulbs for your flashlight can be! Not to mention all those batteries that wear down so quickly. And glow sticks don’t require matches or starter fuel. Just bend them and shake gently to activate (the bending snaps a little glass tube within and shaking mixes the two chemicals together to cause a reaction that results in the glow)
You can get glow sticks in a whole bunch of sizes and colors. After all, variety is the spice of life, right? You can get glow sticks to match the color of your tent, the dog’s collar even your teenager’s hair. Glow sticks are fun (and practical) for illuminating your campsite: Mark paths to the bathhouse take ‘em along when you go on nighttime hikes use them to brighten up the mood around the campfire after you’ve toasting your marshmallows into crusty little cinders. Hang ‘em from the trees if you want to make a pretty, romantic environment for that special someone you’re trying to impress the possibilities are virtually endless.
Glow sticks don’t give off heat, so they’re safe for even the youngest kids - and, best of all, there’s no flame! And that’s especially important during dry weather, with concerns over forest fires being so prevalent.
What’s more, glow sticks don’t give off heat, so they’re safe for even your youngest campers. Best of all, there’s no flame involved - especially important during forest-fire season, when sticks and leaves on the ground are tinder dry and the slightest spark in this dry summer weather could set them ablaze.
No matter how you choose to use them, glow sticks are safe and versatile. And they add light, color and fun to your camping excursion, beach outing or weekend escape. But be sure you’ve got plenty of glow sticks - because everybody’s going to want one - or two or half a dozen. Yeah, they’re that much fun!

Yellowstone National Park is one of the most beautiful places to camp, hike, fish, or just watch nature. Each year, hundreds of families and others visit the park in order to see some of the beautiful sites.
When planning your next trip to Yellowstone, you need to be aware of some challenges you may face. One of the biggest concerns for those traveling to the park during the summertime is the availability of campsites. While you can make reservations, you will have to do so months in advance. This is because of the growing number of people who want to visit the park each year. While there are spots that are available to those who show up first, these spots fill up very quickly. Contact the park for more information especially if you are traveling a long distance to get there.
Another concern that people have when visting the park are the bears. While there are bears that will roam into campsites, most shy away from people and do not want to become part of the crowd. If a bear does wander into your campsite it is usually an accident. Don’t approach the bear and try to leave it alone until it is gone. Most bears are just looking for leftover food and will not attack unless provoked.
Since Yellowstone is so large, it is very easy to become lost while hiking if you aren’t familiar with the territory. In your backpack, you should include a few days worth of fresh water, packaged food items, a blanket, GPS navigational device, and a change of clothing. In case you have to stay outside overnight, you will have enough supplies until you are rescued or you find your way out of the woods.
The park police are trained to find people quickly if they become lost, but being prepared is important in a park this large. Being safe and practicing good camping methods will help you and you family have a great time camping. Obeying the rules will prevent forest fires, injury, and allow you to see the land in all its beauty. My family took a vacation from Malaga, Spain last summer and loved it.
