Geography and topography have settled Marin County in a position where temperatures are lower than those in Sonoma and Napa Counties although they are mere minutes away. Furthermore, Marin County’s terrain and weather patterns are must more similar to those of the southern French wine country of Burgundy than of those in its on State of California. For that reason, viticulture in Marin County and its production of wines can easily compete with the world class wines of Burgundy.
Because of its awesome landscape, its irregular climate, its viticultural tendencies and the high quality wines its wine industry produces due to its extended growing season, Marin County has been said to be much more similar to Burgundy, the world renowned giant of French wine country, than it is to Sonoma and Napa, the wine country of Northern California. And like Burgundy, Marin County produces the elegant Merlots, the Pinot Noirs and the Riesligs.
Marin County is endowed with a mixture of soils that has just the right amount of fertility and nutrients to sustain grapevines, its unique terrain and its weather patterns provide Marin County’s wine industry with the great potential to produce a diverse range of wines, particularly the cool climate varieties that include the Pinot Noirs, the Rieslings and the more elegant Merlots.
The vineyards that were established by the San Rafael Mission and worked by the local Native Americans were soon snatched by General Mariano Vallejo who first banished religion and than had the vineyards pull up and moved to his own lands in Sonoma County.
Vallejo’s actions and the Prohibition in the 1920s significantly slowed the budding wine industry of Marin County but what truly brought it to a full stop was the opening of the Golden Gate Bridge in 1937. With Marin County being conveniently reached via the new Golden Gate Bridge, all eyes turned away from its vineyards to its lands and housing.
Marin County’s wine industry was further thwarted by the Prohibition era of the 1920s and the opening of the Golden Gate Bridge in 1937 turned Marin County’s economic focus away from wine and to real estate and the housing market.
Today, Martin County’s wine industry is growing slowly but it still remains relatively small and keeps a low profile as it is continually being overshadowed by its next door neighbors, Napa and Sonoma Counties which are so well known throughout the world as masters over California’s wine country. Currently, a handful of Marin County winemakers, twenty five in all, are discreetly laboring to produce premium wines and to preserve that part of the Marin County’s rich history and culture. The Marin County Grape Growers Association has even been established and its members meet bi-monthly to discuss issues and t brainstorm about possible innovations and improvements in grape growing, in wine producing and in Marin County’s wine industry in general.
The fact is that Marin County has only 200 acres of vineyards and merely twenty-five wineries while Sonoma County has better than 40,000 acres and nearly 300 wineries and Napa County has 45,275 acres and 316 wineries. Those are facts indeed. But there is still one more fact that I would like to share with you and that fact is that Marin County had the extended growing season and produced the first-class cold-climate wines that Sonoma and Napa Counties could only dream about.

Tucked way in the attic, sorting through boxes of Christmas decorations, I glance upon a true treasure: “The Christmas Book”. Now worn and tattered by the loving hands that have held this most loved tradition, my memory is flooded with kindness and joy as I recall all of the years our family has gathered together to hear one of these favored classic stories.
Since I was a young girl, I can recall this tradition. My mother calling my sister and I into the family room, treats and quilts, fireplace lit, peace and quiet covering us with the warmth of the Christmas Spirit. Deep inside we tingled with excitement, wondering which one of these classic Christmas stories would carry away our dreams that night.
This tradition is perhaps the most loved by everyone in our family. Season after Season, we would bring out the “most loved book”. Season after Season the stories became more rich with meaning.
These classic tales are rich with moral values, connecting oneself to a deeper understanding of the human condition. Each story has a magical twist that inspires and fortifies the soul. As I have grown, so has my appreciation for the meanings found in these story. I am ever thankful that my mother had the insight to read these stories over and over, allowing my understanding of these stories to grow as I grew.
I am grateful to my mother for understanding that children never outgrow the love of hearing a story read aloud. As she infused the passages with passion and meaning, my sister and I strengthen our resolve to train our own voices to speak with conviction and clarity.
As another Holiday approaches, I joyfully unpack the “Most Loved Christmas Book”. The tradition continues as I anxiously thumb through the pages, considering which of the stories will be read first this Season. As I breath deeply and fully, I am overwhelmed by the awareness that the true Spirit of Christmas as been re-awaken within me. It’s going to be a wonderful Christmas this year. After all, it’s “tradition”.

Recreational vehicles often come with just the basic facilities to serve your needs. If you want to purchase or hire a motorhome or camper van, you may wish to consider what optional extras could help you enjoy a more comfortable journey. Many first timers are often swayed by the external looks of a camper, that they forget about what facilities they actually require and end up paying a lot extra later on. Optional extras are often cheaper when taken at the time of a new van purchase.
Several factors should also be taken into consideration, like your current family size and what it may become in the future, as well as the kind of trips you plan to take, the insurance and so on. It also depends on whether you buy a new vehicle or a second hand camper van.
Consider some of the available optional extras in the next few paragraphs and deciding whether these are an absolute must for you now, could save you money in the long term. New or used, buying or renting choosing the right mix of extras can make all the difference to a long road trip.
Camper vans are designed to maximize the available space within the vehicles footprint. Obviously, larger vans will mostly result in more space. Deciding how much space you require is a personal choice that you have to make. One thing to note is that you will generally have less space when the camper is set up for bedtime. It is often in the daytime that you will require the most space for ease of movement. Space costs, so try and find a balance that suits your budget.
The living area, including the kitchen are where you will find the most optional extras. As this is the main family working and resting area, comfort and ease of use are prime considerations. Everything from televisions, to microwaves, air conditioning, cookers and expensive music sound systems can be installed customized to your exact needs. Seating areas can be covered in fabric or luxurious leather, floors can be carpeted or tiled. You can even opt for solar panels to save on battery power. Sticking to your budget in the living areas will probably be the hardest of all, just think about how much of your time will be spent in the van.
A comfortable drivers seat is a must for those long journeys and many prefer the feel of a quality leather seat. Storage is at a premium on most campers and that is why you will find many extra storage options. Some of the larger ones even have a cooler for drinks with drain holes in case of spillage. Some vans offer small compartments in the floor that are ideal for smaller item storage.
Motorhomes and camper vans with simple designs allow you to concentrate on what many owners feel is the most important consideration, that of space. A great exterior will never make up for poor interior planning. Older vans rarely have the flushing toilets and shower facilities you find on the latest models. So you may wish to consider the cost of upgrading a used model to include these essentials. Do not though fill up your recently acquired camper or motorhome with so many extras, that you have no space left for comfortable movement inside.

The more, the merrier is a true concept that many people may not agree while traveling but it might be like that. While you are traveling along with your family then it can also be fun loaded and hassle-free. It does not make any sense if you do not include your kids or your entire family in your trip. For a stress-free and easy traveling here are some of the tips that you can utilize.
Plan with the entire family
Take the opinion of each of the members regarding the places that you all can visit. Children just love getting involved in the planning. Short list the places that the kids want to go and take the preference of the majority. The plan must be simple but at the same time include some fun activities for the enjoyment of the entire family.
Distribute tasks
While packing help each other and see that every one should take some responsibility. Allow your kids to check the first-aid kit, you take the responsibility of cooking and tell your husband to take all the huge equipments. Thus you will have less pressure and each one of the family after contributing will feel important.
Travel light
As your car space will be filled with people so just pack the important things that you will require. In place of carrying the strollers for kids you may also hire if possible. Take mouthwash, shampoos etc in a small packet or bag and do not carry the whole stuff. Keep in mind that if you are traveling light that does not mean that you are traveling imperfect. Take all the essential things that you want.
Secure your house
As every member is traveling with you so you may hire a house sitter if needed. Or else, tell a neighbor to look out for your house. Remember to unplug all the electrical equipments and make sure that all the doors as well as windows are secured.
Be safe
For emergencies always take medicines along with you. The medications must include laxative, ointments, insect repellant, alcohol, aspirins and bandages. If anyone in the family is on medication then bring ample amount of prescription drugs. Its important to carry enough so that it lasts for the whole tour.
Bring in the fun
Do not forget to take the videos and snaps to get hold of your tour. Use the camera in turns so that everyone is included in the memorable snaps. After coming back home you may arrange the snaps in a good travel journal. Thus you will be able to enjoy all the fun memories as frequently as you wish.
The whole aim of the family tour is to enjoy, remember that. Go with the quick tips discussed above and you may experience an enjoyable trip.

For land mammals, we humans sure love our time on the water. People migrate to northern lakes in the summer, and southern beaches in the winter. Any time of year, a vacation just isn’t the same without spending some time on the water.
We are, after all, land creatures. So, we need water vessels to provide all of this aquatic fun. Whether crashing through the waves in a speedboat or floating on a rubber raft, it’s just plain fun to spend time on the water. Fun is fun, but safety should always come first. Water can kill, and must be treated with respect. Be smart and safe regardless of how you’re spending your time on the water.
Wear a Floatation Device
All smart boaters prepare themselves for the unexpected. Weather can quickly turn ugly, causing high waves and blinding precipitation. Collisions and capsizes have brought countless boating trips to abrupt ends, even for the most experience boaters. Don’t think that you’re invincible. Everyone on the boat, even strong swimmers, must wear a floatation device. Small and young children are particularly at risk or injury or drowning. It’s not just a smart thing to do; in many places, everyone in a boat is required by law to wear a personal floatation device.
Learn About Safety
A boating safety course is not just for the novice; experienced boaters can benefit from this training as well. There is likely a free boating safety course available in your area, and lessons can be completed in just a couple of days. Enroll in the course and sign your entire family up as well. A person is never too young (or too old) to learn to respect the water. The Internet is a great resource for finding information about boating programs, so if you’re having trouble finding a safety course near you, check online for information.
Just Say No
Drinking and boating is every bit as dangerous, and just as illegal, as drinking and driving. You’re taking the lives of others in your hands when you’re operating any type of watercraft, and you need to stay alert at all times. Alcohol, drugs and even certain prescription medications will dull your reflexes and impair your judgment. In most areas, the waterways are governed by the same impairment laws that are imposed upon automobile drivers.
Be Surf Smart
Boat safety is based on sensibility. Know your limits, and make sure you’re able to make smart, split-second decisions. Know what to do if another boat suddenly veers toward you, or if your buddy bails off of his water skis and slips from your line of sight. When you’re on the water, you may be called upon to make sound judgment calls. Understand your options in any given situation, and know how to take the best ones.
Have Respect
Respect is as important on the water as it is on the highway. Be cautious of other boaters, and respect their right to share the waters. Make sure that other boaters can see you, particularly at night. Maintain the water speed limit and follow the existing rules of the waterway. Have respect for your passengers, and yourself, as well. Showing off on the water won’t impress anyone.
Boat Maintenance
Boat safety begins with the boat, so make sure that yours is in proper working condition. Check your craft often, and make sure that all components are in working order and meet boat safety requirements. Keeping a maintenance record of your boat is just as important as keeping one for your car. Take your boat and motor for regular maintenance, and learn how to perform emergency maintenance in the event of an accident or breakdown on the water.
From relaxing evenings trolling for bass to exhilarating afternoons of extreme water skiing, nothing beats a day on the water. Safety is always most important, so always make it your first priority.

Looking for a used car to buy? To get one fast, you need to make a list of what you want in a used car. The model of a car is an important factor to decide on before you go out looking for a used car. The model of a used car can determine its cost as some are more reputable than others.
Do you want to sell your car? You can succeed at selling your car on the internet if you know what you are doing. To sell off your car faster, try advertising it on one of those websites that offer free listing services. Taking pictures of your car and putting them on free listing websites online can help you sell your used car fast.
Car buyers are becoming smart; so used car dealers now have no choice but to sell nothing but the best of used cars. There were times when used car dealers used to rip off na ve car buyers because they couldn’t tell the difference between an excellent paint job and a piece of junk. You should be smart and observant when buying a used car to ensure that you get the best one for yourself.
Do not forget to ask questions about any used car that you are interested in purchasing. Always ensure that you ask for and receive maintenance records for any used car that you want to purchase. The title of the vehicle is a vital piece of information that you must get on any used car that you are interested in purchasing.
Some second hand cars have excellent exteriors but deplorably interiors. If the second hand car that you want to purchase is riddled with cigarette burns and other stains, it may not be worth your money to purchase it because it will be expensive to redo. Don’t spend your cash on a used car that will be a pocket drainer after a while.
It is a normal inclination on the part of human beings to target something that goes easy on their pockets. Going for cheap cars that are second hand in nature is a cost effective way of getting a car. You need to be aware that most used car dealers often put a little percentage of the original cost of the car on its current cost to make profit.
Always seek the opinion of a car expert before you purchase a used car. Used car experts help you to find the best used car deal for you. Without knowledge about used cars, you may be unable to find the best one for yourself.
On a general note, most people prefer used cars because they are cheaper. I don’t blame them because one should save money anytime possible, especially on purchases such as cars.

Online audio book sites are now becoming more popular and some of these sites even have a selection of titles that you can download free. Many people have downloaded titles to their computer, burnt them to a cd or put them on their music player.
Listening to an audio book is a completely different experience from reading a book yourself. If you have not yet enjoyed that pleasure you should seek out an audio book site online. These sites make it very easy to download a title straight to your computer.
Audio books are recordings of a specific book read aloud. Audio books can be CDs, or cassette tapes. The online versions are in digital format that you can download to your computer, burn to a cd and then transfer to either an mp3 or ipod.
Audio books are a great way to hear the content of any of all your favorite books any time and any where. This method allows you literally to listen to a human voice reading the entire book to you. Sometimes the author reads his own work and other times a professional speaker is used.

The convenience of being able to listen to an audio book almost anywhere is also a time saver. Obviously you can’t read a book while driving for example but you can listen to an audio book.
The places you can listen to audio books are endless. Think how many more books you can hear now and how exciting this is if you are a book lover. No more carrying around your books only to forget where you left them. You do not always have time to read your favorite books. Listening instead of reading is changing the way people now process books especially with the vast choice of audio books online.
If you forgot your glasses or have difficulty with your eye sight, audio books could be the answer to your prayers. When searching online at an audio book site you will notice that you can find the titles are normally sorted into different categories, for example, self-help, religious and drama and all the other main categories. This makes it easy to browse for what you want.
Most of the audio book sites online make it very easy to download the titles they have available. Many have step by step instructions to help you if you have never downloaded an audio book before. So do not let that put you of if you are thinking of buying an audio book online. Just look at the great selection available follow the simple instructions and you will soon be listening to your latest purchase !
Being able to get audio books online means that you do not have to go to a book store in town. You do not even have to wait for the mail anymore to get your favorite books. There is perhaps no mode of transport that is as romantic as traveling by train. Train trips are one of the oldest and most well-known ways of getting from A to B, and can be a spectacular way to see a country. You can take a train for a one-off trip, like going across the swathe of the US, or you can use train trips throughout your whole holiday, hopping on and off when you wish to see a particular site or city.
Now, going on a train journey does not signify just hopping onto any or every train. Some sort of planning is required beforehand. Also, trains do not run so frequently in all places in the world. African countries have trains that run only weekly, but they are more frequent in the Western countries. Again, in countries like Africa, there is a sole starting point to get in and alight from. So, depending on which country you wish to travel in, conduct some research beforehand. Take a look at local guides which prove to be quite comprehensive where dates, places of departure and timings of trains are concerned. Or browse the Internet for train timetables.
Most train journeys advise the passenger to purchase tickets before getting into any train; it is really not advisable to travel without tickets. A passenger would have to pay a high fine for traveling ticketless! In a place like India, it is possible sometimes to disappear without paying for a ticket if you sit on the roof of the train! They too pay heavily if they are caught. Again, a person with a ticket for a second-class carriage cannot take a ride in a first-class carriage; this act is also liable to be fined.
Unlike underdeveloped countries, train journeys are highly affordable in developing countries. It is only in the US and certain parts of Europe that traveling by first class is costly. In other areas, a normal wage earner can easily afford to travel by first class. The comforts are greater and the journey more pleasant! The authorities have come forward with certain changes to make traveling cheaper and more pleasurable. If train tickets are bought in advance or the duration of the journey is short, the ticket’s price ticket may come down. Other factors that play a role in cheaper tickets are age of the person, the day on which he/she is traveling and the time of the journey. These tickets can be purchased at a discount, at the station itself or on the Net. As a matter of fact, tickets that allow one to roam at will anywhere you want, are well worth the price they are sold at! But it is advisable to seek a travel agent’s help when wishing to purchase discounted tickets so that you do not get taken for a “ride”!
On long train trips, find out in advance if food and drink are available. On board catering should be available on the timetable, and sometimes there is a dining car on board the train. If none are available, don’t overlook the possibilities of station restaurants, though if you are travelling in a developing country, exercise caution with both the food and drink at all times. There is nothing quite as bad as being ill on a moving train over a long journey.
Depending on the duration of your trip, it is always good to travel light - the universal law of most travel. Though porters are normally available on train trips, a mass of luggage is an encumbrance on a train. Pack essentials only and choose wisely according to the climate and the length of you trip.
There are not many railway-less countries, and the possibilities for train trips are limitless. Don’t just stick to the well-known routes. Branch out and see what you can discover.
